Purna Chandra Das was blessed to parents Radha Shyama Das and Madhuri Das, at Palsingha in Kendrapara district. He was very musical and sensitive to the sounds around him right from his very birth. He had a sensitive ear for music and hailing from a poor family was not to stop this determined boy from choosing to pursue music as his career.
He joined Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya in Bhubaneswar for pursuing his dream. He got an Anjali scholarship for three consecutive years—2003, 2004 and 2005. He got Child Artist award in the year 1996 from Lalit Kala Academy, the Sura Das Memorial Award in the year 2002, Sanskar Bharati Award in the year 2003 and the Red Cross Award in the year 2007.
Swabhiman has been a part of his journey in fulfilling his musical dream. Swabhiman had provided him scholarships to help continue his music education in Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. Swabhiman also provided him with the opportunity to become a resource person and teach children in the Anjali Music Workshop. In the year 2007, he qualified the interview and joined Kendriya Vidyalaya as a music teacher. To show his earnest gratitude towards Swabhiman for its support, he donated his first year’s salary to support another child in need with a disability.
“Anjali scholarship helped me focus on my music and studies rather than having to worry about paying the mess bills. Exposure in camp Anjali as a resource person has helped me become a good teacher”
